I’m not sure what the rush is like for other authors, but for me anytime I close in on a publication deadline my entire body gets tense. For the entire month leading up to a release, I don’t sleep well and am in full-time panic mode. I’m terrified there will be one thing I forgot, or accidentally upload the wrong manuscript…
Trust me, my brain can come up with some crazy scenarios – none of which have EVER happened.
Because of all that tension though, whenever the book finally does release it’s like a cumulative sigh. I’m telling you, its on par with heroine—it feels incredible. I always take the day off and make sure I have plenty of time to relax. I know some authors who will go on a cruise, or get themselves a season pass to Disney when they publish, but I never have. (Oh, how I’d love to be able to afford a cruise! Lol) What I actually do is more low-key. I’ll grab a slice of cheesecake from the refrigerator and then lay on the couch watching a chick flick.
It’s pretty ‘Basic Bitch’, but so much freaking fun! The little luxury of taking the day off from housework and other responsibilities is incredible. Up until now, my kids have always been at school when that happens, but this time I’ve got both of them pulling on my pant legs.
Not exactly the “Spa Day” I imagined.
Thankfully, I have an amazing husband who stepped up and offered to take full responsibility for the kids this weekend so I could have the time to myself. It was like Mother’s Day 2.0!! Not only that, but my birthday also happens to be next week, so I get to do the whole thing over again.
Life is sweet. <3
My latest novel, Rescued by Valan, is scheduled to be released the second week in September and I am so excited!
